Crafting with Cookie: Global Quilt Connection

Hi! I’m Cookie Washington and I’d like to teach you sustainable creativity. You will be helping to reduce environmental waste and you’ll be drawing inspiration from the rich textile crafting cultures from around the globe. Students will experience the regenerative process of breathing new life into discarded textiles while reducing our environmental impact. I’m actually teaching something our Grandma’s did instinctively, we’ve just added a fancy name to get folks to pay attention. “Upcycling” also known as creative re-use; it’s just giving old textiles a second life.

In this class you will be making a "crazy" quilt with only 18 fat quarters of beautiful African fabrics. The bold prints and vibrant colors will make a most stunning quilt. Your home sewing machine and a fabric kit with all the supplies you need except your top stitching thread is available. This class will teach you how to make a beautiful quilt with NO quilt making experience required - and best of all - it shows you all the steps to have a finished quilt in just four classes!

You will purchase a kit that contains 18 fat quarters of African Fabric and blender prints. You’ll need 9 -18 inch squares of batting needed for the quilt. You'll be using the decorative stitches on your sewing machine to do all of the quilting, in small and easily manageable sections.
